Government closest to the people governs best.

No wonder McDonnell is a star in Virginia. Classical conservatism.

If the Republicans can control the message this November, then they will win big... perhaps bigger than under former Speaker Gingrich.

Governor Robert McDonnell

Playing the Thomas Jefferson card repeatedly sounds nice for a hometown (home-building) speech.

"We want results, not rhetoric..." Amen.

Props to McDonnell for hitting the Democrats on several healthcare talking points. solutions.GOP.gov plugged, nice.

Pro-innovative energy on the basis of economic prudence will win the day over the global warming panicked.

Pro-education speak-- even showing common ground with the President-- is bread and butter for the Republicans in a post NCLB world.

pro-Afghanistan policy teamed with anti-terror policy and a reference to Senator-elect Brown (R-MA) is a unique hit on the administration.

Here comes the finish!

Replug the catchphrase "change you can believe in".

Time to hit the reset button with the new decade.

Went with a slow build up for the finish, but it did not seem to hit at full speed. Well written rhetoric, however.

Look at the glares coming from the brass after the Don't Ask Don't Tell remarks. It appears to be a tough sell for the military leaders.

A call for immigration reform without detail, once again.

Sounds like Mr. Obama is heading towards the close with a pro-human rights speech. Civil rights not just here, but abroad.

Call for support for the veterans at home, and plugs the first two ladies.

Plugs the anti-nuclear weapons treaty negotiations with Russia (which are falling through, it sounds.)

Calls for more strict sanctions against rogue nuclear countries.

Calls out North Korea and Iran, and promises more "consequences." Why does the President sound like a distressed single mom ad Wal Mart?

"I'm not interested in re litigating the past."

But it's Mr. Bush's fault, yes?

Meanwhile, Mr. Obama calls for bipartisanship on behalf of national security. It is interesting how Mr. Obama provided a criticism against a "just say no" straw elephant.

Notes the near attack on Christmas, but flaunts a series of positives on the war on terror, immediately before plugging that the troops will come home.

Obama calling for a change to the political game in Washington. Acknowledged the loss in Massachusetts passively in a reference to election season.

Beating up on the United States Supreme Court while they are in the front row: Give 'em Hell, Mr. Obama!

Why is Mme Pelosi passing notes?

Mr. Obama calls for (now illegal) campaign finance reform and earmark reform.
