the Seven Sides of Sam

Bad ideas turning good

This webpage enjoys a beautiful, sliding door theme, which yields a unique, difficult situation.  First, it assumes that there are seven topics available.  Second, it is an effort to tame into the desired product.

Luckily, I have a few topics already in place.  Okiepol can feed the okiepolitics link, while SecondWindyCity can build off of my work at okiepolitics.  From there, a couple of natural transitions make sense: putting up a shingle for political consulting.  I enjoy photography, so creating the ongoing art segment will be a much needed muse.  Beyond a self-introducing page, that leaves two pages remaining.

Fortunately, I have worked with students from nearly every conceivable background, which enables me to work as a tutor– post another shingle. Then again… tutoring as a service is overdone.  I will work for individuals — in fact, if you want that service then please e-mail sam at moonlightpatriot dot com.  Then again, I’ve been in education too long, but I keep thinking “No page left behind”!  Now, time for a bad idea from a Halloween costume contest…  El Teachador.  Could be fun, right?

Finally… I love board games.  I’m a member of the Windy City Weasels, the Chicagoland Diplomacy organization.  I have always toyed with the idea of making games.  The mechanics of board games have always fascinated me, and I am developing various prototypes… from a homestead to American politics, 1789 to present.  From non-ambitious to very ambitious, here we go again.

Expect to see some changes to the facade of the website, including a potential name change.

Working towards polling

Trying to launch a small consulting firm is a lot of work.  God bless the government for upgrading the process to involve much more paper.

Among tax identification forms, tax forms, incorporation documents, franchise fees, and so on lies a glimmer of hope to provide a service to potential customers: accurate, unbiased polling data.  The infrastructure is in place — yea building a low-cost-high-output system which collect data.  The understanding of practices is in place — yea grad school.  The only things left in order are learning legalese and launching an outfit.  Boo bureaucracy.

For those of you interested in political survey data, check back in the near future, as Moonlight Patriot, L.L.C. will be marching full speed into the consulting realm.  We are looking for clients directly.  References will be rewarded.  Check back for more information in the coming days.

Politiconsulting Polling

Terrorism Unnoticed

Al Qai’da strikes again, yet no one in the United States seemingly cares.

Earlier this week, al Qai’da operatives out of Somalia bombed a Ugandan restaurant killing dozens of innocents.  Why did the press not pick this story up?  Well… stuff was going on.  Like Lindsay Lohan going to jail, gambling advice from a future-telling octopus, and Lebron James signing with Miami.

A mean girl, soccer, and a guy who can’t win a ring beat out international politics.  Worse yet, the situation might lead to pressure on the Ugandan government to pull troops from Somalia, specifically Mogadishu, creating a safe haven for al Qai’da.

At least our President is paying attention, right?

Wait.  No.  It took a day and a half to get out an apology call.  Congress could not even muster that in the midst of an election cycle.  While we continue to focus on irrational, irrelevant garbage, people who want to kill us get away with similar attacks with apparently no recourse.

At what point will we realize that we will lose the war on terror if it is about al Qai’da versus the United States.  We will only win if we can spin it into al Qai’da versus the rest of the world.  Leaving Uganda staggering after an attack like this one shows a lack of respect for human life, lack of diplomatic cunning, and abysmal failure of foreign policy.

Moonlight Patriot Lives Again

After a prolonged sabbatical, webspace makeover, and rededication of priorities, the MoonlightPatriot.com family returns.

okiepolitics, now located at okiepol.com, along with the Second Windy City, secondwindy.com,  among other sites will redirect to their appropriate addresses.  Meanwhile, I will continue a personal blog, available on the navigation bar above.  Please note, however, that there are new options as well.  Samuel Bassett, the Moonlight Patriot, has wares and services for sale.

Playing the role of pear-shaped starving artist, I will post photography which is available for sale within time.  A neat service available is printing and painting canvases modeled after the photography.  There will be much more to this option with later posts.

Parents, guardians and students who are looking for a little help for their learners, then feel free to contact this teacher for services in the Chicagoland area.  I am available for online tutoring as well, should someone need that as an option.

Finally, as the course of this blog has consistently focused on politics in Oklahoma, Chicagoland and nationally.  I hit the reset button on this little web address to coincide with picking up a political consulting freelance.  Quite frankly, I put candidates in a position to win — and I don’t compromise ethics.  More information is available here.

In any case, thank you for clicking over to my humble webspace.  I hope to see you soon.
